everyone needs a hug,

some people need a slap.

(stop buying fast fashion)

birthed from Preservation.

Up cycling has become a trend. On social media, people take a garment, disassemble it, put a new pattern on top and cut new pieces from it. This could be done better- although the designer reuses some of the garment, waste is still created.

This outfits top piece consists of pre-loved garments from myself or friends. Arm holes were partly torn to allow the previous layer to reach through. Deadstock zips were inserted to give the option of a new silhouette on each layer. The overall shape is therefore edited without removing or discarding elements.

The ‘WASTELESS’ repeat pattern was screen printed to add an element of branding. This amalgamation of layers can be styled in an infinite combination of ways.

Inspired by the concept of modularity and full customisation, 3 dead-stock knitted jumpers from a local shut-down knitting factory were twisted & chained together. The open arms invite the wearer to wrap and knot the piece around themselves however they see fit and practical for their day.

Custom fabric

The trousers were a collaboration with Chloe Mortiboys- a textiles student creating woven propaganda against the over consumption of fast fashion. Our messages and motivations seemed to align - the perfect excuse to experiment with the jacquard loom and create a material that is completely unique to carry its own message.

STYLED SHOOT

Using a medium format camera, I wanted to capture macro elements of the nature that surrounded and inspired my journey as a designer, with portraits of the models showing the anguish that the active consumerist lifestyle strikes in my heart.
