i have had enough.
y’all are destroying the planet.

birthed from frustration.
This outfit epitomises the anger and frustration with the industry I felt during my education. We are told about the malpractices, such as wasteful design, trend-based overproduction, and the use of harsh dyes and finishes that destroy eco-systems, yet are not required to do anything about it!
Each to their own, most designers continue to go about their practice ignoring the consequences of their privilege. This design encapulates my attitude towards this neglectful mindset.

Reversible in all ways
Turning the jacket inside out offers the same piece, but in a different colourway- being constructed from two identical jackets bagged inside of each other.
The shirt is constructed from 3 fast fashion throwaways, yet are combined to create a reversible and interchangable piece that can be styled differently by each wearer.

Rust & decay
I was aware of the natural ways we have been dyeing fabric through the ages, and wanted a natural representation of the dilapidation of society through over consumption.
Living by the sea, industrial waste often washed ashore. Iron melded with rocks & lost pieces of glass from the sea floor, oxidised from exposure to the elements. These ugly turds were the perfect tool for affecting my fabric… I tied and twisted the garment around the iron slug and tossed it into the back of my garden for a few weeks. Upon my return, the insects had began to taste it, and the smell of metal permeated through my nostrils.
Back in the studio, it was unraveled to unveil a beautiful collection of assorted patterns.
STYLED SHOOT
My emotions of rage and impatience are reflected in the garments grunge aesthetic and rugged construction techniques. Although these emotions are what inspired my devotion to a waste-free construction methodology, this outfit encapsulated the feelings the most.
I discovered a passageway underneath a bridge that had been used for raves and left littered and dusty. This was the spot I wanted the viewer to feel entrapped with the models ambiguously lurching and meandering in the dark, showing the juxtaposition between beauty and anger. The shoot utilised a mask upycled from a radiation protection boot, reclaimed trash, and pieces from other outfits in the collection.
